Fundamental Sefer on Choshen Mishpat
Comprehensive halachic work on monetary matters by Rabbi Shmuel Hasardi, one of the 13th century Spanish Rishonim.
Rare first edition!
Sefer Haterumos is fundamental to the study of the laws of Choshen Mishpat. The author of Gidulei Terumah writes in his preface that
“the vast majority of laws cited in Choshen Mishpat are derived from the work of the Baal Haterumos.”
Rabbi Efraim Zalman Margalios wrote in his approbation to Gidulei Terumah (Zolkova, 1809) that “that Sefer Haterumos is the source of the majority of Torah written in Tur Choshen Mishpat .” Sefer Haterumos is cited by the greatest of Rishonim among them Rabbeinu Yerucham, the Tashbetz, Rivash, and is quoted hundreds of times in the Beis Yosef and Shach on Choshen Mishpat.
Rabbi Shmuel Hasardi (circa 1190-1255) was born and flourished in the city of Sardinia, Spain where he corresponded repeatedly with the Rambam whose works he cited frequently in his sefer. Rabbi Shmuel also quotes Rishonim from Provence, among them the Raavad, Baal Haeshkol and others.
Sefer Haterumos was brought to print at the behest of Rabbanim from Salonika, and with assistance from Rabbi Moshe de Medina, son of the Maharshdam, who served as a prominent Rabbi in Salonika.
