“Igros Kodesh” from the Mitteler Rebbe. 1824

Handwritten “Igros Kodesh”, holy letters by the Mitteler Rebbe to his chassidim at the start of his tenure in 1804. The letters include sixty-six sides of handwritten prose in neat, beautiful script.
1.
“First Letter by the Admor Shyichyeh to All Anash”: From the title of this letter, it appears that the letter must have been written during the Admor’s lifetime (prior to 1828). The letter first appeared in print in Warsaw, 1868 as the preface to Kuntress Hahispa’alus.
In this marvelous letter, the Admor summarizes the general state of his chassidim’s avodas Hashem and arouses them to repent and toil in the wisdom of Chassidus which, he writes, “brings the mind and heart to wonder”. He also pledges to guide each chassid individually, each man in accordance to his ways and needs, both when his chassidim journey to his Holy Court together and return with his holy teachings, and also through his travels to outlying towns and villages which he was instructed to do by his father the Alter Rebbe prior to his passing (Igros Ha’Admor Ha’emtzai, 2013 p. 62).
2.
“Second Letter to All Anash in Our Land”: This 46-sided letter gained renown and was later printed under the title Kuntress Hahispaalus.
At the end of the letter, the Admor clarifies that everything he writes in the letter was written from the heart, based on over 20 years of learning and training in the home and Holy Court of his father, the Alter Rebbe, and based on what he garnered over the years from letters written by his chassidim.
The final last lines of the letter were added later in a different handwriting.
The
Mitteler Rebbe Harav Dov Ber Schneerson (1733-1828) expounded upon the lofty teachings of his father the Baal Hatanya, and institutionalized the Lubavitch Chassidus. He succeeded his father as Admor in 1813 and led his flock until his untimely passing in 1828 at the young age of 54.
