Rabbi Chaim Rabinowitz (1860-1931), renowned as Rabbi Chaim Telzer, was among the greatest Roshei Yeshivos in Lithuania “who molded the image of the Lithuanian yeshivos” (preface by Roshei Yeshivos of Telz to Chiddushei Rabbi Chaim Telzer). He was renowned as a genius and “marvelous mechadesh” who innovated brilliant chiddushei Torah and paved the path of yeshivah-style study distinct to Lithuanian yeshivos. His “chakiros” (studies) were widely-acclaimed in Lithuanian yeshivos during the era preceding the Holocaust.
Rabbi Chaim served as Rosh Yeshivah of Knesses Beis Yitzchak in Slabodka. In 1905, after Rabbi Shimon Shkop relocated from Telz to Grodno, he was invited by Rabbi Eliezer Gordon to succeed Rabbi Shimon as Rosh Yeshivah of Telz. There, Rabbi Chaim taught Torah to hundreds of talmidim, who ultimately disseminated his wisdom and unique path in study to thousands. His shiurim were compiled and printed in the 3-volume masterpiece Chiddushei Rabbi Chaim MiTelz.

The chosson Rabbi Avraham Shmuel Finkel (1887-1951) was the son of Rabbi Nosson Tzvi Finkel, Alter of Slabodka. Rabbi Avraham Shmuel served as Av Beis Din in Yasny, Lithuania, and thereafter, as a mashgiach in both the Slabodka and Chevron yeshivos. His lectures and the mussar he taught were printed in Nesivos Mussar.
The margins of the letter include “Regards to your father-in-law Hagaon [Rabbi Yehuda Hachnochi, Av Beis Din of Chechonovitch] shlit”a”.
