Handwritten & Autographed Letter by the Admor Rabbi Yosef son of Rabbi Shabsi of Rashkov

Handwritten and autographed letter by the pious Admor Rabbi Moshe Yosef Av Beis of Rashkov. Rabbi Moshe Yosef was the son and successor of his father Rabbi Shabsi of Rashkov, author of Siddur Rabbi Shabsi.

The Admor Rabbi Yosef of Rashkov (d. 1820) was the son and spiritual successor of the legendary Rabbi Shabsi of Rashkov, a disciple of the Baal Shem Tov and author of Siddur Rabbi Shabsi. Harav Yosef was one of the closest disciples of the Admor Rabbi Pinchas of Koritz and was renowned for his remarkable holiness and abstention. The Ohev Yisrael of Apta declared that “Rabbi Yossele attained the highest level of Chassidus, ” adding that “when Rabbi Yossele sings Shir Hashirim and dances on the night of Pesach, his soul ascends to the Holy Throne and it is an auspicious hour to be recalled for many salvations” (Encyclopedia for Chassidus Vol. 2 p. 130). Following this statement, many Jews flocked to the home of Rabbi Yossele of Rashkov on the first night of Pesach to receive his blessings.

Rabbi Yossele of Rashkov was a genius in the Hidden Torah and personally edited and proofread his father’s siddur. His glosses were printed in the new edition of the siddur (Rabbi Mandel’s edition, Brooklyn, 2019). He was succeeded as Admor of Rashkov by his son Rabbi Shlomo Zalmina of Rashkov.

Rashkov, undated. Subpoena to Beis Din to compromise on a case of chalitzah. Green paper. Page size: 15×17 cm. Slight tear on the fold of the page without defect. The handwriting on this letter is identical to the handwritten glosses in his father’s siddur. A photocopy of this letter was printed in Os Chaim (Bnei Brak, 2005); and the letter was printed in Igrei D’vei Hilulah Vol. 1 p. 80.
