Unpublished Handwritten Manuscript of Novellae by Rabbi Aharon Kutna, Prized Disciple of the Chassam Sofer

Complete volume of treatises on Talmud, mainly regarding tractate Chulin as well as several other treatises on various other tractates.

The majority of this unpublished manuscript was handwritten by Rabbi Aharon Kutna, ab”d of Tottis and author of Mishchas Aharon. The volume includes indexes organized according to the Talmud.

The title page is written in square lettering, stating that the manuscript was handwritten by Rabbi Aharon Kutna in the city of
Darda, 1817 (where he resided in his father-in-law’s home, ab”d of Darda).

Rabbi Aharon Kutna’s wax seal remains completely intact and can be found on the inner side of the cover. There is also a signature from Rabbi Aharon’s son, Rabbi Shalom Kutna, ab”d of Eisenstadt, as well as various signatures from Rabbi Aharon’s disciples.

Rabbi Aharon Kutna (1794-1874) was the son of Rabbi Yosef Kutna, ab”d of Tottis. He was a student of Rabbi Shalom Charif, ab”d of Kekenbach, and traveled to the Chassam Sofer’s yeshiva in Pressburg at the age of 18. The Chassam Sofer greatly admired him and extolled his virtues. He strongly endorsed him for the Tottis rabbinate in place of his father, describing him as an elevated tzaddik. He authored She’eiris Yosef on Daas Zekeinim, Mishchas Aharon on tractate Nidah and V’Hadras Aharon on tractate Shabbos, among others.
