A desperate letter from Rabbi Shalom Elizer Halberstam of Ratzfert, son of Rabbi Chaim of Sanz,
"Behold I have heard saying that they took my brother Rabbi Yeshaya and my  son-in-law (Rabbi Ben Zion) of Bobov to there. Therefore, I ask that you immediately write me a response if the matter is true and if something is being done for it. Who and whom are the goners?"
Rabbi Shalom Eliezer Halberstam of Ratzfert (1862 – 1944) was the son of Rabbi Chaim of Sanz. He followed the ways and customs of his father in what was then called Ratzfert, Hungary. He was later appointed leader of the Sanz community in Hungary where great Rabbis as well as commonfolk would flock to him for blessings and salvation. On the day he was went to Auschwitz, he donned a white kittel and shrouds after his father appeared to him in a dream. He was killed that same day.
