Historic Kol Koreh calling for a worldwide fast, written in the handwriting of Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinsky and signed by Rabbi Yisrael Meir Hakohen, author of the Chafetz Chaim.
In 1922 the communist Russian government escalated its aggression against its Jews, persecuting and harassing them, closing down yeshivah's and imprisoning rabbinical leaders. As a result, the spiritual situation in Russia and Ukraine stood in great danger. This was in addition to the famine, starvation and terrible physical situation there.
In light of their tremendous suffering, the Chafetz Chaim made a special visit to Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinsky in Vilna in order to discuss the matter. There they signed this historic Kol Koreh calling on all Jewish communities around the world to fast and pray for the suffering Jews of Russia on Erev Rosh Chodesh Elul, 1922.
