Rabbi Ya'akov Ettlinger Av Beit Din of Altona (Karlsruhe – 1795 – Altona 1872) for over thirty years, he fought courageously against the Reform Movement in Germany; his students included Rabbi Samson Raphael Hirsch.

This response was sent to his son-in-law and deals with the matter of an emissary for receiving a get for a woman who was in New York.

In this present response, the R. Ettlinger strongly opposes making a shaliach l’kabbalah, especially by means of a letter.

The rabbi who was involved in the divorce from New York is
Rabbi Avraham Ash and the Aruch L’ner notes that
