'In Slabodka there was a terrible fire ... and we are very preoccupied with it' - letter by the Gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Elchanan Spektor Av Beit Din of Kovno.
A letter written by Rabbi Yitzchak Elchanan Spektor, Av Beit Din of Kovno to his grandson Rabbi Yosef. He tells him, “there was a terrible fire in Slabodka, may God have mercy on him, three thousand souls lying in the streets of hunger and lacking everything and we are very busy with it.”
Dated 1892, written on both sides of the page, all in his handwriting and signature.
