A letter written by Rabbi Yitzchak Elchanan Spektor, Av Beit Din of Kovno to his grandson Rabbi Yosef. He tells him, “there was a terrible fire in Slabodka, may God have mercy on him, three thousand souls lying in the streets of hunger and lacking everything and we are very busy with it.”

Dated 1892, written on both sides of the page, all in his handwriting and signature.

The Ga'on Rabbi Yitzchak Elhanan, the greatest halachic authority of his generation, made his mark on all Lithuanian Jewry and throughout the world.
