Start price: $70,000
Five Megillos with Sefiras Haomer.

Europe, 19th Century

Preserved in Ornamental Leather Case with Gilded Engravings

Five Megillos: Esther, Shir Hashirim, Koheles, Ruth and Eichah, all complete and kosher,
written on parchment in matching small format measuring only 17 cm.

Each megillah is rolled on polished wooden
Atzei-chaim. The crowns of the upper
Atzei-chaim are artistically painted and crowned with pearls

The Order of Sefiras Haomer is written on a long leaf of parchment measuring approximately 1.6 meters in length and only 4.5 cm in height. Each day of the Omer is inscribed within a circle, for a total of 49 circles. The Order of Sefiras Haomer is rolled along two brass
Atzei-chaim built directly into a box at the edge of the Megillos.

The complete set is preserved inside its original custom case. The box is divided internally into six compartments—five for the Megillos, and the last one for the Sefiras Haomer. The compartments edges are adorned in gold and bronze.

Each Megillah is encased in a handmade mantle in shades of red, green, and white and embroidered in gold and maroon thread.

The mantles are complemented by metal plates, resembling that of a Sefer Torah, with scroll name labeled on each Megillah.

The wooden box is coated in leather with engravings and decorations. The box interior is lined with lavender paper and features its original metal latches painted gold. The front of the Sefiras Haomer is covered in glass with a circle that enables the user to exhibit the day of the Sefirah.

All complete, Box dimensions: 34.2 x29.5 cm.

Written on the spine of the case in slightly-faded gilded letters are the words “Five Megillos” “Seder Sefiras Ha’omer” and the letter ‘Z’ at the bottom.

The present item was surely produced by prime artisan.
The binding appears similar to many of the special bindings that were fashioned exclusively for the Ruzhin library.

Provenance:The late Rabbi Avraham Halperin.

A similar item can be found in The Jewish Theological Seminary of America Library in New York, but in poor condition and lacking artistic splendor.
