Shulchan Aruch with Be’er Hagolah. First Edition. Amsterdam, 1661-1664
Complete Set!

Shulchan Aruch with Be’er Hagolah contains the sources from the Talmud to the rulings of the Shulchan Aruch and the rulings of the Rema by Rav Moshe Rivkash of Vilna.

Since its first printing, Be’er Hagolah has been recognized as one of the fundamental works on the Shulchan Aruch, and  is included on the pages of the Shulchan Aruch in every printed edition.

It took 4 four years to print the four volumes of Bee’r Hagolah, which is why a complete set of all four volumes is exceedingly rare.

Orach Chaim, 1661. [13], 4-320 leaves.

Yoreh De’ah, 1662. [1], 340 leaves.

Even Haezer, 1662. [1], 198, [1] leaves.

Choshen Mishpat, 1664. 486 leaves.
This volume of Orach Chaim is especially rare. It includes four pages of approbations, two pages of acronyms – acronyms of the authors quoted in Be’er Hagolah as well as another chart of acronyms of frequently used words; these pages are missing from nearly all other known copies.

Among the approbations are those of Rav Heschel of Krakow, the Vaad Araba Aratzos and the Taz. These approbations are virtually unknown and are not published even in the Machon Yerushalayim edition of the Shulchan Aruch. According to the dates recorded on the approbations (1663-1664), they were obviously added to the sefer after its printing and are therefore missing from the majority of copies.

Harav Moshe Rivkash (circa 1600-1671)
was born in Prague and lived in Vilna. Fleeing the Cossack pogroms of 1655, he found refuge in Amsterdam, but returned to Vilna in his latter years. The author recounts his harrowing experiences in his introduction to his sefer. Harav Moshe Rivkash was the great-grandfather of the Vilna Gaon, whose commentary of the Shulchan Aruch is in a way an expansion of the Be’er Hagolah.

Amsterdam, 1661-1664. 4 volumes. Page size: 15-16.5 cm. Orach Chaim, Yoreh De’ah and Even Haezer boast artistically engraved copperplate title pages. Original leather-covered wood binding, with new spine. Good condition. Complete set.
