Evidence to the truth of the Oral Torah presented in debate form by Chacham David Nieto, Rabbi of the Sephardic congregation in London.

The author subtitled his sefer “Kuzari Sheini-Second Kuzari, ” referencing the original Kuzari which presents evidence to the Written Torah. His work provides evidence to the Oral Torah.

Chacham David Nieto (1654-1728) was an illustrious Rabbi, doctor and philosopher who mastered numerous fields of wisdom . He was born in Venice and served as Rabbi of both the Sephardic congregations in Livorno and London. The Chacham Tzvi and Shaagas Aryeh praised him greatly, and the Steipler recommended this sefer to anyone who experiences any doubts or confusion regarding the truth of the words of Chazal.

This copy of Matteh Dan, complete with its Spanish translation, features an extra title page in Spanish 

“Matteh Dan y segunda parte del Cuzari … se prueva… la verdad dela Ley Mental… Compuesto por… David Nieto.”

The text in this sefer appears in double columns, one in Hebrew and one in Spanish. )In the same year, a version of this work was printed with out the Spanish translation.)

London, 1714. First edition. [10], 254 leaves. Page size: 34 cm. Good condition, clear printing with illustrated title pages. The top of the title page features a conceived image of Rabbi Yehudah Hanassi, who compiled the Mishnah, with a copy of the Mishnah in hand. Original worn leather binding.
