Siddur HaKabbalah Used by the Disciples of the Baal Shem Tov

Siddur Rav Asher. Lvov, 1788

Nusach Sfard siddur with the intentions of the Arizal, edited by the saintly kabbalist Rabbi Asher Margalios, one of the greatest kabbalists of the kloiz in Brod. This siddur was printed in Lvov in 1788 in the printing press of Rabbi Shlomo Yarish Rappaport by the same workers who published the first edition of the Noam Elimelech that same year. Chassidim say that these special employees were among the 36 hidden tzaddikim of that generation.

This is one of the most important Kabbalistic and Chassidic siddurim. It is exceedingly rare to find such a siddur completely intact and in such good condition.
The siddur, which includes the kavanos of the Arizal, is an enhanced edition of the Siddur Ar’i printed in Zolka, 1781 by the kabbalists of the kloiz in Brod. This edition contains amendments and additions based on Sefer Hayichudim L’Ari, Eitz Chaim, Machberes Hakodesh, Pri Etz Chaim by Reb Chaim Vital and Siddur Rav Shabsi of Rashkov [which hadn’t yet been printed at that time].

In their approbations, the sages of the Kloiz inscribe that Rabbi Asher Margolis, ”has a hand and a name in the wisdom of Kabbalah.” The holy Rav Chaim of Brod also gave his approval, and the author who was his disciple incorporated comments from his Rebbi, Rav Chaim of Brod, in his annotations on the siddur.
Rav Yissachar Dov of Zlotshov and Rav Moshe of Pshevorsk also wrote approbations to this siddur.

The Chassidic masters highly regarded Siddur Rabbi Asher and were careful to use only his version of Nusach Ari. The Sefer Imrei Pinchas Hashalem (Vol. 1, pgs. 223-234) quotes Rav Yaakov Shimon, son of the Rav Pinchas of Koritz as saying, “Therefore one should use only the Nusach HaArizal Lvov Edition or the Siddur of Rav Shabsai, and not the versions in the new siddurim.” He also said that they used the siddur of the Arizal Lvov Edition and did not want to use another siddur since it was very important to Rav Pinchas of Koritz to use this particular siddur.
The Chasam Sofer used the handwritten manuscript of Siddur HaAri of Rav Asher. (See Otzros HaSofer, essay 19, p. 179.)

Lvov, 1788. First edition. [398] leaves. Page size: 17 cm. Three parts in a single volume.
