Handwritten and autographed responsum by Harav Moshe Katz, the Nitra Gaon, regarding pidyon haben. This responsum regards the proper time for performing the mitzvah of pidyon haben. Since Harav Moshe Katz was a kohein, the writer also inquired about his custom in estimating the value of the five silver coins delivered as the pidyon.

Harav Moshe Katz (1842-1927), Av Beis Din of Nitra, was the son of Harav Menachem Katz Prostitz — Av Beis Din of Tzelim, and a disciple of the Chasam Sofer’s sons the Ksav Sofer and Harav Shimon Sofer — Av Beis Din of Krakow. In 1895, he was appointed Av Beis Din of Nitra where he also served as Rosh Yeshivah.
