The story of Rabbi Petachya of Regensburg’s 12th century expedition through Europe, Asia and Eretz Yisrael. Rabbi Petachya was an intrepid explorer and the account of his travels is particularly significant for the wealth of information that it encompasses about the various Jewish communities he visited. Sivuv Rabbi Petachya was published in numerous editions and translated into many languages, the first edition is extremely rare. 

Rabbi Petachya of Regensburg was the brother of Harav Yitzchak Halavan, one of the Baalei Tosfos. He set out from Prague in approximately 1175 and traveled to Poland and Kiev. From there, he traveled south to Crimea, Asia Minor, Armenia, Georgia, Kurdistan and Iraq, and then to Eretz Yisrael via Syria. In the Holy Land, he likewise travelled the length and breadth of Eretz Yisrael in order to acquaint himself with all its holy sites.
