Handwritten Novellae by Maharam Schick, 1834

Handwritten novellae on maseches Bava Metzia by Harav Moshe Schick, Av Beis Din of Chust and author of Maharam Schick. The writings follow the order of the sugya with Rashi and Tosfos.

The novellae begins with a handwritten inscription: “With the help of Hashem, the subject of ‘Malveh al hamashkon, ’ Bava Metzia 80-81 until the end, 1834.”

Harav Moshe Schick (1807 – 1879) was a leading disciple of the Chasam Sofer who perpetuated his legacy in Torah study and as spiritual leader of Hungarian Jewry. He had many noteworthy disciples, many whose works appear in this catalogue, among them the Maharshag, Harav Shaul Rozenberg and Harav Shaul Brach.

He was described as
“Never tasted the taste of sin, and his holiness was from his youth until his passing…” The Chasam Sofer regaled him with praises, and his disciple Rabbi Zalman Shpitzer, who was a son-in-law of the Chasam Sofer, compared his humility to that of Rabbi Akiva Eiger.

He authored responsa on all four parts of the Shulchan Aruch; Maharam Schick on the 613 Mitzvos; Talmud, Torah, homilies, Pirkei Avos and more.

10 handwritten sides (5-double-sided pages). Page size: 23×20 cm. Light-blue paper with slight stains and restoration at edges. Page 3b with slight tear affecting 3 words. Attractive new binding.

First published by Moriah. Cheshvan, 1976.
