Heartwarming handwritten letter by Rabbi Yitzchak Elchanan Spektor, Av Beis Din of Kovno to his grandson Rabbi Avraham Yosef Rabinowitz whom he raised and loved as a son.

In this letter Rabbi Yitzchak Elchanan writes to his grandson “I request that you write me any chiddush or kushya, and it will bring me great nachas, for this is my life’s purpose and goal”.

 
 
Rabbi Yitzchak Elchanan Spektor (1817-1897) was an illustrious Torah luminary and the uncontested spiritual leader of Russian and Lithuanian Jewry in his era. Regarded as one of the greatest meishivim of all time, he authored countless teshuvos, many of which appear in Shu”t Be’er Yitzchak, Ein Yitzchak and Nachal Yitzchak.
Rabbi Avraham Yosef Rabinowitz was raised in the presence of his revered grandfather, Rabbi Yitzchak Elchanan Spektor, who treated him as a son, and learned a daily shiur in Gemara and Poskim with him (Toldos Yitzchak p. 25). In 1900, Rabbi Avraham Yosef printed his sefer Ohr Layesharim contesting the Zionist philosophy.
