Year-Round Machzor, Nusach Ashkenaz . Sabbioneta-Cremona, 1557-1560
Machzor with prayers for Shabbos, Festivals, and Yamim Nora’im which includes Maagalei Tzedek, – selections of laws and customs for year-round occasions, and elucidations by Rabbi Binyamin Halevi.
The above laws and elucidations were first printed in Saloniki (1550), additional laws and elucidations were added to this edition, and were entitled Maagalei Tzedek.
Maagalei Tzedek was printed repeatedly, and for many years it was an inseparable part of the machzor. The author’s writings are cited in the works of the later Poskim, most notably the Magen Avraham who generally references him with the letters “מ.צ.” (see Stefansky Sifrei Yesod #428).
The machzor was printed in an attractive format with borders and decorated letters interspersed throughout the machzor.
Sabbioneta-Cremona, 1557-1560. 392, leaves. Page size: 18.2 cm. Approximately 40 pages were restored at the margins. Complete edition.
Minor stains, restorations and handwritten inscriptions. New leather binding.
The printing of this Machzor spread over four years, beginning first in the Poa Press in Sabbioneta and ending in Elul 1560 in the Conti-Venzinzo Press in Cremona. Many researchers and bibliographers discuss the interrupted and resumed printing, as well as changes between the two editions.
