Drashos by Rabbi Yosef ben Rabbi Yosef Ibn Shem Tov arranged in order of the parshiyos. The sefer culminates with drashos for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, arousing his listeners and readers to repent and restore their hearts to their Father in heaven.

This sefer was enthusiastically received and widely disseminated among the masses, as evident by the fact that it was reprinted twice within the next thirty years – in Venice, 1547 and in Padua, 1567.

Rabbi Shem Tov lived in Spain shortly before the expulsion, and the present sefer was completed in the year 1489 (as noted in the sefer itself). He is most famously known for his Peirush Shem Tov commentary on the Rambam’s Moreh Nevuchim, which first appeared in print in the Venice edition of 1551.

Rabbi Shem Tov was the son of Rabbi Yosef Shem Tov, author of the sefer Kevod Elokim (Ferrara, 1557). Rabbi Yosef was one of the spiritual mentors of the Abarbanel and a grandson of the kabbalist Rabbi Shem Tov Ibn Shem Tov, author of sefer HaEmunos (Ferrara, 1557).

Rabbi Shem Tov venerated the Rambam, and the drashos in the present sefer reflect the Rambam’s philosophical approach.

Colophon at end of sefer states: “The work was completed here in Salonika in the home of the exalted and elderly Don Yehuda son of Gedalya. 11 Iyar, 5285 (1525). Good condition with wide margins. Light water stains. Margins of leaf 61 torn with minor damage to text. Light damage to margins of last pages, although all has been professionally restored and completed. Attractive new parchment binding with ribbons.
