Amsterdam, 1817

Unique Latin display

Rare booklet contains the order of Sefiras Haomer, as well as the prayers of Kiddush Levanah.

The Sefiras HaOmer booklet contains a separate page for each day of Sefiras Haomer, beginning with the required counting in Lashon HaKodesh. Followed by Latin letters, displaying separately, the current count of Omer days; the number of Omer weeks; as well as any remaining days that have not yet completed a full week, as illustrated in the accompanying images.

This unique and rare presentation of the count of Sefiras HaOmer served as a translation for those in the Portuguese community of Amsterdam who did not have a good comprehension of Hebrew.

Published by Aharon HaKohen Belinfanti. The Printer’s emblem depicting the kohen’s hands spread out as when reciting Birkas Kohanim appears on the colophon, alluding to the printer (Propes) being a Kohen.

Amsterdam, 1817. David Propes Press. . [32] leaves. Page size: 7 cm. Antique parchment binding. Good condition. Exceedingly rare.
