Letter by Rabbi Shimon Sofer, Av Beis Din of Paks

Szendrő, 1907

This letter, replete with divrei Torah and other topics, was handwritten and autographed by Rabbi Shimon Sofer, son of the Yalkut Eliezer and Av Beis Din of Szendrő and Paks, Hungary.

The letter opens with Rabbi Shimon’s description of a eulogy that he delivered upon his mentor the Shevet Sofer and describes the recent founding of a Chevras Shas in Szendrő, Hungary. The second half of the letter contains a wealth of divrei Torah.

Twice in the letter, he mentions his venerable father, Rabbi Eliezer Zussman Sofer, Av Beis Din of Paks and author of Yalkut Eliezer.

Rabbi Shimon Sofer (1867-1931) was the son of Rabbi Eliezer Zussman Sofer, Av Beis Din of Paks and author of Yalkut Eliezer. Rabbi Shimon was one of his father’s prime disciples and studied as well under the Shevet Sofer.
He served first as Av Beis Din in Szendrő and then succeeded his brother, the author of Yalkut Sofer, as Raavad in Paks.
